Treatment Options

Bariatric surgery can be life-changing for people who have battled obesity and chronic conditions. But it isn’t the best solution for everyone. We offer a number of proven options – surgical and nonsurgical – to help you achieve your weight loss goals and improve your health. We believe that each patient is unique, and we’re ready to help you choose the treatment plan that best suits you.

Moving forward with a weight loss surgery or procedure is an important decision. Each procedure carries its own risks that our team will discuss with you. Ultimately, a successful procedure is just one part of a comprehensive weight loss plan.

Endoscopic Intragastric Balloon

In this procedure, a deflated balloon is inserted into the stomach through the esophagus. A doctor then injects the balloon with a saline solution. The expanded balloon makes you feel full while reducing the amount of food you can eat. The balloon is removed after six months.

Laparoscopic Gastric Banding

In this procedure, commonly called a “lap band,” a band is surgically placed around your stomach. The band can be tightened to restrict the amount of food you eat with a small port implanted underneath your skin. This procedure involves no surgical modification to your anatomy and is reversible.

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

This popular procedure involves creating a small stomach pouch that is then connected to the small intestine. In addition to restricting the amount of food you eat, the resulting arrangement bypasses the first section of the small intestine, leading to the absorption of fewer calories.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

In this procedure, about 75-80% of the stomach is removed, reducing the amount of food you eat. You’ll also feel less hungry because your smaller stomach temporarily produces less of the hormone ghrelin, which gives you the desire to eat.

Methodist Weight Management Program

This program helps you embrace the lifestyle changes necessary for healthy weight loss. It begins with an evaluation of eating habits and physical activity. Extended appointment times are available, as well as health coach calls for support and to discuss progress, challenges, and setbacks. Some participants who considered weight loss surgery decide against it after success in the program. Others enter the program to lower the risk of complications in unrelated surgeries.
